I am not at all an expert in the law, but this is what I've come to understand about the situation: 1) The actual call itself is not illegal unless you are doing it to annoy or harass somebody (i.e. calling the same # multiple times).  2) The recording of the conversation is not illegal, as long as you are in a one party state since you are the originator of the call and are not eavesdropping in the conventional sense of the term (i.e. you would be considered as one consenting party to the telephone conversation).   This is probably wishful thinking since both of these are open to interpretation.   Maybe one of these days I'll put a less questionable prank phone call on here instead, but for now, this is the only thing I have, and it's too funny not to share with the world.  If you decide to do a prank phone call yourself, check out this handy list of telephone tape recording laws for each state.  You may also want to check out your state laws on harassment.   Things such as fowl language, intent to annoy, or intent to alarm are probably against the law (not to mention extremely inconsiderate).
